Riders were pushed to their limits, with days four and five being the most challenging tracks yet offered at a BMW GS Safari Enduro. Highlights included stopping at beautiful riverside stations, sitting around the fire and hearing stories of the amazing history of the remote areas. The ride was a scenic run criss-crossing the Murray all the way to the mouth, where participants were able to smell the salt air and see the Murray flowing into the ocean after six days of dusty outback ridingĬamping along the way allowed participants to travel to remote destinations and explore tracks less travelled.
The group travelled north towards the famous border track, following the Murray River to Victor Harbor in South Australia. Riders were faced with challenging terrain, soft sand, mud, bulldust and an abundance of wildlife. It started in Bourke, NSW, with 110 riders and headed down the Darling River from its headwaters to the mouth of the Murray in South Australia. The third GS Safari Enduro last month featured the toughest conditions yet. The first Enduro event was held in the cold, wet Victorian high country in 2013 and the 2014 event was a contrast across the hot, dry north. However, with the advent of more GS models and calls by riders for tougher events, the GS Safari was split a few years ago into the standard Safari and the Enduro for highly skilled riders.
